My story as a woodworker
Mariève Proulx
The kitchen, at the heart of my work
MaPro du Bois was born in the Estrie region of Quebec, out of a deep passion for woodworking and a desire to create everyday objects that are both beautiful and functional.
I'm a cook at heart, so it was only natural to combine the two and create a brand that truly represents me.
What's better than a great meal shared with the people you love?
My path
Before MaPro du Bois, I worked as a nurse for 8 years. It was a job I did with heart, but deep down I felt the need to create something of my own — to give my all to a project that reflects who I am.
I learned woodworking on my own. No cabinetmaking school — just curiosity, patience and plenty of trial and error. My first creations? My pergola, then a triple chair. Ambitious projects for a beginner, but that's how I work: I dive in, learn by doing, and I don't give up.
Today, MaPro du Bois is the fruit of that transition. A career change that hasn't erased my past — it has made it my strength: attention to detail, discipline, and the desire to take care of people, this time through objects they'll touch every day.
An artisanal approach
I select each piece of wood myself, favoring noble and durable species. The process is entirely manual: from start to finish, including meticulous sanding and a food-safe finish that brings out the natural beauty of the grain.
Why choose wood?
Wood is a living, warm and welcoming material. Unlike plastic or glass, it is naturally antibacterial and gentle on your knives. With simple care, a wooden board can accompany you for a lifetime — and even become a family heirloom.
